Can I use a student loan to purchase a car?

Hi everyone....just wanted to ask this general question. I start school this fall and I have applied for both subsidized and unsubsidized loans. The majority of it I realize will be spent on books and tution....but with the remainder...can I buy a car? I live in a very small town and we do not have public transportation. In the loan agreement it states the loans can be used for transportation but does this include the purchase of a vehicle? Thanks so much in advance!
