Should F.Y.R.O.M. Monopolize the name Macedonia?
Although this newly formed country FYROM, occupies only a small area of what was in antiquity Macedonia, and although its inhabitants have a completely different view to that upheld by the majority of historians around the world regarding the Greekness of Macedonia, it is trying to impose a monopoly on the use of the term Macedonia. Should it not (at best) be granted by the international community the use of a geographic qualifier such as North Macedonia considering it is situated on the northern part of what used to be Macedonia? Otherwise, if these people are allowed to hijack the identity of Macedonia as a whole, then a significant portion of the Greek people who have been living as Macedonians in the region of ancient Macedonia but outside FYROM will have been robbed of their heritage.
